Sunday Bible Class – Minor Prophets: Haggai Introduction and 1:1-15

Bro. Kipton Garrett continues teaching from the Minor Prophets, starting a series of lessons on the book of Haggai.  In this lesson, Bro. Garrett gives an introduction to the book, and begins a discussion of the text with a look at the first 15 verses.

As part of this lesson, Bro. Garrett used several pictures to illustrate certain points, and while the pictures are not available in this format, the point to be made through those pictures should be clear in the discussion.

Note: These presentations are primarily meant to serve in the teaching and edification of those who are in attendance at the Orangeburg church of Christ each Sunday morning at 10 a.m.  Those classes are recorded and then made available in the form of this podcast, but, the quality of the recording may not be up to the same level as other podcasts which are recorded with that primary purpose in mind.

Wednesday Bible Class: Daniel 5:29-6:9

As we continue our study in the book of Daniel, we finish up with Chapter 5 and move into Chapter 6.  Attention is given to how Chapter 6 fits into the chronological timeline of Daniel, and how the Law of the Medes and the Persians affects not only the story of Daniel, but other stories in the Bible as well, including God’s overall plan for the redemption of mankind.

Note: I forgot to start the recording at the beginning of this lesson, so the discussion will begin kind of abruptly with a few words about Daniel 5:29.  Prior to that, we had reviewed the meaning of the handwriting on the wall, which was covered in the previous lesson.

Sermon: Degrading Passions – Romans 1:26-27

From the evening of 2/28/16

Romans 1:26-27 is one of, if not the clearest statement in the New Testament with regard to the sinfulness of engaging in homosexual activity. This lesson examines Paul’s statement in these verses, while also encouraging Christians to react to homosexuality and those engaged in it in the proper way.

Note: These sermons are presented with the intention of instructing and edifying those who are in attendance at the Orangeburg church of Christ.  Therefore, the audio quality of these recordings may not be on the same level as a recording that was originally intended to be presented as a podcast.

Sermon: Where is Knowledge – Hosea 4:1-7

Sermon from the morning of 2/28/16.

We are warned in the Old Testament in passages such as Hosea 4 and Isaiah 5 about the danger of being without knowledge.  While not bound by the laws of the Old Testament, there is still much that Christians can learn from those books. We need to be aware of the dangers of not giving proper attention to God’s will, and we also need to be conscious of what we do with the knowledge.

Sunday Bible Class: Zephaniah 2:4-3:20

The conclusion of Brother Kipton Garrett’s class on the book of Zephaniah. In this lesson we cover the judgment pronounced on the various nations around Judah, as well as the judgement pronounced on Judah and Jerusalem.  Later we discuss the good news that comes at the end of the book, the promise of restoration. At the end of the lesson, we take a more detailed look at Zeph. 3:17, called by some, “the John 3:16 of the Old Testament”
