Be of the Same Mind – 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 – 6/9/19 p.m. sermon

Speaker: Justin P. Sivley
One of the key issues Paul deals with in the letter of 1 Corinthians is the need for unity within the body of Christ.  Christians cannot be divided if we hope to reach the world with the gospel.  Our Lord prayed for unity among believers in John 17, so that the world would know that he was sent by the Father.  When the church is divided, not only is it sinful, but it robs us of our effectiveness in reaching the world with the gospel of Christ.

An Introduction to 1 Corinthians – 6/9/19 Bible Class

As we prepare to embark on a study of 1 Corinthians during our Sunday evening services, we took the time in our Sunday morning Bible Class to look at an introduction to the letter, trying to better understand the history and culture of the city that Paul visited in Acts 18 and later wrote a letter to.  Understanding those matters can help us to understand the issues that Paul addressed within the letter.

No matter what kind of relationship we have with someone, Christians should always behave as Christians.  In Ephesians 6, Paul deals with the relationship between slaves and masters, a passage we often apply to the employee/employer relationship today.  Whatever situation we find ourselves in, even if it is one we are not happy with, we have no excuse for not behaving as a Christian.

Paul was given a special responsibility, to take the gospel to the Gentiles.  He was a steward of God’s grace, and went out and proclaimed the mystery revealed as he preached the gospel throughout the Roman world. And through his inspired writings, he still preaches to us today.
