A Final Charge – 2 Corinthians 13:11-14 (7/30/23 p.m. sermon)

The second letter to the Corinthians comes to a close, and so does our study of this wonderful book.  Though it has been challenging at times, the ending of the book is fairly straightforward, with a five-fold charge that is meaningful for Christians in any age.

A Mighty Fortress – Psalm 46 (7/30/23 a.m. sermon)

In a Psalm that inspired Martin Luther to pen the words of the hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” we are reminded of God’s love and care for his people.  God is so great, and no enemy of man can overcome Him. And if we are on His side, we have him as our refuge and our fortress.

One Thing Is Necessary – Luke 10:38-42 (7/16/23 a.m. sermon)

Mary and Martha were a pair of sisters (along with their brother Lazarus) who knew Jesus well.  In Luke 10, our first proper introduction to the sisters, the two are complete opposites in terms of the situation at hand.  While Mary sits and Jesus’ feat, Martha is being trying to show hospitality, serving the Lord and his disciples, and desiring fairness, wanting her sister to help too.  While these things should not have been neglected, it was Mary who had recognized what is necessary, to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn from him.
