The Bible in Modern English – Part 2 (5/24/23 Bible Class)

In this second part, we’ll review a bit of what was discussed in the previous lesson, and then begin to dive into some of the more modern translations (from the middle of the twentieth century on). We will examine different translation philosophies, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each, while also understanding how using multiple translations can be a benefit to us.

United We Stand – Philippians 2:1-2 (5/21/23 p.m. sermon)

In an age when division is all around us, it is more important than ever that their be unity among God’s people.  We must stand together on the Word of God, and in the love that we share as brothers and sisters.  This must not be seen as optional, but necessary for the church to continue to have an impact.

Who God Made You To Be – Genesis 1:26-27 (5/21/23 a.m. sermon)

Though there is much confusion in the world today over matters related to sex and gender, the Bible speaks of only two at the beginning, male and female.  These are the simple facts of how things were when God created humanity, and what God intended for us to be.  Though the world will go the way that it goes, God’s people must not be afraid of being who he made us to be, and living in accordance with God’s expectations of us.

It’s Good to Be His Sheep – John 10:7-18 (5/7/23 p.m. devotional)

Among the “I am” statements from John’s gospel are two that are closely linked, where Jesus says, “I am the door of the sheep,” and “I am the good shepherd.”  As the door, he is the only way into the sheepfold (the church) and as the shepherd he leads and cares for the sheep. The sheep have to listen to his voice, and follow where he leads.
